SmokeShow is an exploration of human emotion and sensuality using the medium of generative AI.

I wanted to ask questions with this group of portraits and nudes, to imagine a series of characters trying to express themselves using only smoke as both prop and wardrobe.

Is it weed? Purgatory? Or something even more surreal? It’s up to the viewer to decide.

Each image is subject to interpretation, each strives to convey an emotional state, to form a bond with the viewer. Some of the models are coy, some defiant. Some are in crisis, some in a state of ecstasy.

I treated the group much as I would a photoshoot—seeking specific feelings but leaning into abstraction and enigma within my central conceit.

The irony of training machines to make such work is not lost on me, but as the project grew so did my fascination with the process. By the end I wondered if this was my response to the isolation of Covid, to the haze of technology, or perhaps something more basic in the human condition?

In any case, I hope they speak to you as they do to me.
